What wig install suits you best?
There are many types of wig install methods, such as: lace adhesive (wig glue), or glueless installs which utilize glues and sticky sprays. What’s the pro’s and con’s between the two? Keep reading to find out.
Glueless wig installation : 1-2 day hold
If you’re looking to have a wig installed quickly, and for it to last for one event, then a glueless installation is your best option.
A glueless installation is done using adjustable straps, combs and sometimes a sticky spray. The big advantage of glueless wig installation is the time it takes – you can have it installed within 30 minutes.
However, a glueless install can easily fall off, with water being enough to snatch it from your head. We suggest a glueless install if you’re using this wig for a short time and won’t be undertaking serious movement.
Lace wig installation (glue adhesive) : 1-2 week hold
For a longer-lasting wig install, the glue method is advised. The main advantage of a glue install is that they can last for up to 2 weeks without needing to get it re-installed. Not only does a lace installation last longer, but it’s actually stuck to your head, which means you can move more freely without having to worry if it’s still attached.
A lace wig can take up to 24 hours to install, as the wig itself is attached to your skin, using glue to bond the lace piece to your head. This method will look most natural, as it’ll look like the wig hairs are coming from your scalp. To remove a lace front, just rub with alcohol (surgical spirit) until the glue is weakened and the wig will slide off.
The overall quality of your wig will determine how natural it fits, that’s why we create our wigs with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship.
How to make your wig install last longer?
It’s possible to extend the length of time your wig install lasts for by caring for it properly. Undertaking regular maintenance such as frequent conditioning, cleaning and protective caps (bonnets) at night will help your wig look better for longer. Styling your wig will also help it look fresh, even if it’s been installed for a prolonged period of time.
To summarize, the length of time your wig install will last does depend on the install method. Glueless will last 1-2 days, and an adhesive lace front installation can last from 1-2 weeks. As mentioned, both methods can have their lifespan extended through proper maintenance and care. Finding the right stylist is essential, as the quality of products they use during the install process will also impact the longevity of the installation.
